We just purchased a new car last week. A good tip we always use is that you do not get talked into going above your budget. We will not look at a new car loan unless it is the same payments or less than what we are already paying. You will find the salesman try and talk you around this but if you stick to your guns you will be a lot happy and will not have as much stress.
