Need advice on taking a personal loan!!!

Hi everybody, I have been wanting to take a personal loan for my house issues. I have been advised by my friends to take it from a credit union as they have more flexible rates of interest than the other banks. I am not sure about this and found that most of them are similar, as far as I have known. So, please let me know what are the best options for me?
