I never knew about the bill paying option and will look into this as I use PayPal a lot but it seems that there is more that I could do with it to make my finances easier to manage.

What are the fees on a premier paypal account? I have the ordinary one, and they seem to knock a lot off in fees just for that.

At least I can transfer into my bank account for free if the amount is £50 or over.

The fee is variable, depending on the amount you receive.

I belive that, for small amounts, the fee is 2.3%, plus a 30 cent transaction fee.

I chose not to upgrade mine but it means I have to turn down some payments and I am confused. Is it true that if a persona paypals me but not from their balance (so drawing up from their bank account) a basic account *cannot* accept the payment?

I hate dealing with the paypal account and the way that it says it works as opposed to how it actually works. I upgraded mind but I do a little over the $500 per month. Why would you have to refuse payments?

Will someone explain to me please about this downgrading and upgrading of Paypal account as I don't understand. What kind of accounts does paypal offer? How much to pay for each account and what benefits can we get from each of them?

Paypal will definitely rip you with their fees. I know that people who do Paid-to-Read work, will lose half of their money to the fees.

I've also left the money in my PayPal account and used their bill paying service. That's quite useful.
I didn't know paypal had a bill paying service. Is this just for premier accounts?

Paypal offers three types of accounts: Basic, Premier and Business.

The Basic accounts do not have a fee. There are limits on monthly withdrawals and you can't accept credit cards.

Premier and business accounts carry the fee. No, it's not half of what you get; it's more like about 5%. It depends sometimes on the location; I'm in the US and noticed when I got a paypal payment from someone in Ireland or Australia, the fee was higher. Currency conversion charge, I'm sure.

I originally had a basic account, then (accidentally) upgraded because someone tried to pay with a credit card. I had to request a downgrade. You can only do this once; after that you're stuck with the premier account. So be careful.

What annoys me is that if you sell on eBay and accept paypal payments, you can't refuse to accept credit cards. This is because paypal is owned by eBay and they want to get the fees, even from one time sellers!

This gives more info on the types of accounts:
