I downgraded my Paypal account

I decided I hate those Paypal fees, so I downgraded from Premier to Personal. I don't make over $500 a month in it, and I don't need the Premium features, so its all good!

Why would you choose to go to Premium in the first place? You have to plan first if you are not going to need the extra features and if you aren't going to recieve more than $500 a month. But better late than never.

I thought it was $700 a month that you need a premier account for?

I got bumped up to premier about two years ago when I was selling more than $500 in a month. I no longer use my PayPal account for most transactions. I didn't even know you could downgrade. Thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately, I need some of the Premier features. I just hate the fees so much! I really wish I could downgrade, but the Personal account just can't give me what I need . . .

How do you down grade the service? Do you have to call or can you do it right on the site?

There's a place on the site to do it. I was upgraded to accept a cc payment once and downgraded immediately. At the time, it said I could only downgrade once.

Have you looked into using their money market account, and/or getting the debit card?

The debit card pays cash back on all purchases (I thinkit's 1.9%...?). I pretty much never transfer funds out of my account. Instead, I just use the debit card like a check card to pay a lot of my bills, buy gas and groceries, etc.

The cash back is enough to partially reimburse what I pay in fees. If you can afford to keep a balance in your account, dividends from the money market fund should pay most of the rest.

In the end, I consider the fees pretty tolerable, since an actual merchant account would cost far more in fees, and is probably unattainable for me between my status as a freelancer and my less-than-stellar credit!

I do this with Neteller and it's very handy. It's reasonably safe, too, because you have to load the card, it doesn't offer open access to all of your money. I didn't realize PayPal paid cash back, though, so that's a plus.

I've also left the money in my PayPal account and used their bill paying service. That's quite useful.
