Mortgage bonds

Hi

I've been renting for about 10 years now, since leaving university, and now that I've got a steady income and reasonably healthy bank balance, I've decided to apply for a mortgage.

Some of my friends have said that I should look into mortgage bonds, however I'm not entirely sure of the process that's involved.

Could anyone lend some information about the steps I should take to invest in mortgage bonds?

Thanks
